Greenwich Concours d’Elegance – Sunday
Sunday is the second day of the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, the International Day. The emphasis is on pre- and post-WWII European sports, touring, and competition cars and motorcycles. BMW, Lancia and Ferrari both had a very distinctive presence on the field.
Classes included Prewar, English, German, Italian and International Sports/ GT and Touring, Special Interest, Competition, Unrestored Preservation, Homologated, and Motorcycle. Judging at the Greenwich Concours d’Elegance is based on the visual impact of the vehicle, also known as French Rules, and not on a traditional points system. Each category is awarded a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place choice.
Sunday is also the day of the Bonhams auction. There were a variety of marques on the floor, mostly driver quality. Many of the cars sold at or slightly below estimate price, with the noted exception of a few higher end cars which did not meet reserve. The verde green 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 stopped with a high bid of $2.5M. The 2005 Ferrari 575 Superamerica stalled at $550,00. A 2005 Ford GT stalled at $260,000 and a Lambo Countach also hit $260K with no sale. The biggest no-sale was the 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K that had a bid of $2.7M but did not sell.
